Great Big News!
I'm super stoked to announce that through uber-coach Derrick Spafford at Spafford Health and Adventure I have landed a sponsorship with Dion Snowshoes.
For the last few years I have toyed with the idea of incorporating some form of winter sport into my training. Not only will the cross-training improve my fitness but I have always loved snow sports (born and raised in Kimberley, BC. Nuff said.) Snow boarding and skiing are somewhat cost prohibitive these days but snowshoeing not so much and it will definitely help break the monotony of running in the Vancouver winter rain. Not to mention the fact that I love a new challenge and the associated learning curve.
If there is any truth to the weather rumors then this is supposed to be an epic snow season here on the West Coast and for the first time in a long time I'm actually looking forward to snow on the mountains instead of bemoaning the loss of running terrain. I'll also get a chance to compete in the local Yeti racing series.
A bit about Dion Snowshoes:
Designed and built in Vermont by hardcore enthusiasts, they are a modular design vs. one piece which means you chose the frame, binding, and cleat to suit. Which is awesome because you get a custom shoe with parts that can be replaced if need be instead of having to buy a new snowshoe. Compared to the West, the sport is huge out East so I can only imagine the knowledge and experience that goes into designing these bad boys.
If you are interested in picking up a pair of your own click on the Dion logo or contact Derrick at info@healthandadventure.com for more info.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...
